This is a great little red tin retractable reel type clothesline! There were 2 companies that made these from the 1940s - 1970s, Acme and Handy Things Manufacturing Company. This one appears to be the Acme brand although there is no mark. These are so useful, I hung this one on the outside wall of a cabin where I lived and hung my clothes to dry. It worked great and is very easy to use, you just pull the cord out and attach it to a hook and there is a locking mechanism on the crank. The reel measures 3" x 2" and the back plate is 4 1/2" x 2 3/8" with holes for hanging at the top and bottom. The tin has some scratches from use and a few paint spots.
